Security has been tightened in Rawalpindi and Islamabad as authorities imposed Section 144 ahead of an important meeting with Imran Khan at Adiala Jail on Tuesday. The restrictions were enforced after family members, lawyers, and senior PTI leaders were scheduled to meet the former prime minister.
Reports confirm that security around the jail has been placed on high alert. Shops and educational institutions along Adiala Road have been closed as a precaution. The movement of people has also been restricted to avoid any large gatherings.
PTI submitted a list of six individuals who will meet Imran Khan. Those approved include PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Khan, Salman Akram Raja, Barrister Salman Safdar, Ali Zaman, Sardar Nabi, and Talat Mehmood. Khan’s sisters are also expected to visit him today.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi is likely to reach Adiala Jail as well. PTI has instructed all national and provincial assembly members to show solidarity by visiting the jail. This announcement prompted authorities to tighten their security plans even further.
To manage the situation, the Rawalpindi district administration imposed Section 144 for three days. This order restricts political and religious gatherings in the city. Security in and around Adiala Jail has been elevated to the highest level to prevent any untoward incident.
More than 700 police officers and officials have been deployed as part of the special security plan. Anti-riot equipment has been made available, and strict vehicle inspections are being carried out before anyone is allowed near the jail. Law enforcement agencies are working together to ensure law and order.
In addition, all private educational institutes in Gorkhapur and nearby areas have been closed for the day. Shopkeepers in Gorkhapur Bazaar have also been instructed to keep their businesses shut due to security concerns.
