A deadly Bannu terrorist attack targeted a convoy of the Assistant Commissioner (AC) of Miran Shah tehsil in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, killing four people, including the AC.
The incident occurred on the Bannu-Miran Shah Road, under the jurisdiction of Cantt Police Station, when terrorists ambushed a police squad. Among the deceased were Assistant Commissioner Shah Wali and a civilian. Three police personnel were also injured in the attack, according to DIG Sajjad Khan.
Following the attack, terrorists set the vehicle on fire. A large police contingent quickly reached the scene and secured the area. Authorities confirmed that the attack was part of ongoing militant activities in the region.
In response to escalating threats, Pakistan security forces conducted an intelligence-based operation on November 24-25 in Bannu District. The operation targeted Indian-sponsored militants, including members of Fitna al Khwarij (FAK), reported to be operating in the area.
During the operation, security troops engaged the militants in intense firefights, resulting in the deaths of 22 khwarij. The ISPR confirmed that the operation successfully neutralized the threat posed by these militants.
Authorities are continuing a sanitization operation in Bannu to eliminate any remaining Indian-sponsored khwarij. Officials emphasized that the security forces remain vigilant and committed to protecting civilians and law enforcement personnel.
The Bannu terrorist attack has drawn condemnation across Pakistan. Government officials reiterated that such acts will not deter security forces from maintaining law and order in the region.
This incident highlights ongoing security challenges in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and underscores the importance of intelligence-based operations to counter terrorism. The swift response by security forces prevented further casualties and is expected to strengthen the regionโs security framework.
