LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has directed authorities to continue combing operations in sensitive parts of the province to strengthen the overall security environment. Her instructions came during a high-level meeting held in Lahore, where officials presented detailed briefings on law and order, digital surveillance, and ongoing community-focused reforms.
During the meeting, Maryam Nawaz stressed that combing operations must not slow down, especially in areas identified as vulnerable. She said that sustained action is essential for maintaining peace and ensuring the safety of citizens. Officials also reviewed the performance of security agencies and discussed steps to further enhance coordination at the local level.
The meeting approved new legislation aimed at taking strict action against individuals who damage Safe City cameras or any other government property. The chief minister stated that such acts disrupt public safety and must be dealt with firmly.
Maryam Nawaz also ordered the digital monitoring of individuals listed in the Fourth Schedule. She directed the departments concerned to carry out uninterrupted operations against Afghan nationals residing illegally in Punjab. She added that these measures are designed to support long-term security and law enforcement efforts.
In a significant welfare step, the Punjab chief minister approved the launch of the “Punjab Chief Minister’s Honorarium Card for Imams.” The issuance of these cards will begin in February, while payments through pay orders will start from January 1. From February 1 onward, all payments will shift to the new honorarium card system. She also instructed that the registration of imams continue without any delays.
Officials informed the meeting that 62,994 registration forms have been collected across the province, and verification is underway. The government has decided that any imam found involved in activities against national interests, or in cases of moral or financial misconduct, will lose their honorarium privileges.
Additionally, Mosque Management Committees and Tehsil Management Committees are being formed across Punjab. Maryam Nawaz directed all Assistant Commissioners to hold monthly meetings with imams to ensure better coordination, transparency, and oversight.
