LAHORE – Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has approved the issuance of honorary cards for mosque imams across the province. These cards will allow monthly stipend payments starting January 1, 2026.
A meeting chaired by Maryam Nawaz set a deadline for the distribution of the cards by February 2026. From February 1, the “Imam Masjid” card system will be used to disburse payments directly to mosque imams.
Punjab authorities have received 62,994 registration forms from imams. The verification process is ongoing to ensure that only eligible individuals receive benefits. Imams involved in activities against national or moral interests, or engaged in criminal conduct, will have their cards revoked.
To support the system, mosque management committees and tehsil management committees have been established across Punjab. Assistant commissioners have been directed to meet with imams monthly to address concerns and provide guidance.
The provincial government also plans to introduce legislation for stricter penalties against damage to Safe City cameras and government property. This move is part of broader efforts to maintain security and public accountability.
Additionally, Maryam Nawaz has instructed the continuation of operations against illegal Afghan immigrants in Punjab, reinforcing the government’s focus on law enforcement and public safety.
Officials said the honorary card initiative will help recognize the contributions of mosque imams while ensuring transparency in the distribution of stipends. Citizens and religious leaders have welcomed the step as a positive measure by Maryam Nawaz to support community services.
