KARACHI – Chilling CCTV footage has emerged showing the moment a 3-year-old child tragically fell into an open manhole near Nipa Chowrangi in Karachi.
The footage captures the child leaving a shopping center with his mother, running happily toward his father, before suddenly falling into the manhole. Witnesses and onlookers rushed to help, but the young child could not be saved.
Rescue teams recovered the child’s lifeless body 14 hours later. The body had been carried about one kilometer away in a drain, leaving the local community in shock.

This tragic event adds to Karachi’s growing safety concerns. So far this year, 24 citizens, including five children, have died after falling into open drains and sewers.
The CCTV footage has sparked outrage on social media and among residents, who criticized the authorities for neglecting public safety. Many are demanding accountability and urgent measures to prevent similar incidents.
Officials said investigations are underway to identify responsible parties and improve safety in public areas. Urban safety advocates emphasized the need for better infrastructure, including proper covering of manholes and regular inspections.
