LHC Grants Post-Arrest Bail to Engineer Muhammad Ali Mirza in Blasphemy Case

LHC Grants Post-Arrest Bail to Engineer Muhammad Ali Mirza in Blasphemy Case

LAHORE – The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Wednesday granted post-arrest bail to religious scholar and engineer Muhammad Ali Mirza in a blasphemy case.

A bench of the court directed jail authorities to release Mirza immediately if he was not required in any other case.

Earlier, Muhammad Ali Mirza filed a petition challenging an ongoing investigation initiated by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA). The petition names both the FIA and the Punjab Quran Board as respondents.

In his petition, Mirza stated that the FIA started the inquiry without issuing any prior notice. The agency had forwarded a social-media video to the Punjab Quran Board, seeking a religious ruling (fatwa) on its content.

The petition further argued that the Punjab Quran Board declared Muhammad Ali Mirza guilty of blasphemy based on an old video, despite having no authority to issue fatwas. Mirza maintained that the Board’s mandate is limited to matters related to the publication of the Holy Quran.

Through the petition, he requested the court to nullify the fatwa issued against him and order the termination of the FIA investigation.

The case has drawn significant attention due to Mirza’s status as a widely followed religious scholar and the sensitive nature of blasphemy allegations in Pakistan. The court’s decision to grant bail allows him temporary relief while legal proceedings continue.

Authorities and legal experts stress that the matter remains under investigation, and the LHC’s order does not halt further legal actions until the court delivers its final verdict.
