ISLAMABAD โ The Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) has confirmed that the final Supermoon of 2025 will light up the sky tonight, marking an exciting moment for sky-watchers across the country. This rare lunar event, often called the Cold Moon, will be visible from December 4 to early December 5.
According to SUPARCO, the Supermoon will shine at its brightest at 4:15 AM on December 5. The moon will appear bigger and brighter than usual due to its closer position to Earth. This Cold Moon is the third consecutive supermoon of the year, making it a notable sight for astronomy lovers.
Experts say the moon will look 7.9% larger and 15% brighter compared to a normal full moon. At its peak, the moon will reach 99.8% brightness. On the evening of December 4, it will rise at 4:58 PM and display 99.2% brightness, giving viewers an early chance to enjoy the spectacle.
The Supermoon will be positioned 357,218 kilometers from Earth during this event. This closer distance makes the moon appear unusually big in the night sky. Supermoons typically happen three to four times a year around the world, and this will be the last one of 2025.
Astronomers encourage the public to observe the Cold Moon from open areas with clear skies. No special equipment is needed, and the event can be enjoyed with the naked eye. The bright glow of the moon is expected to create a stunning nighttime view.
