Muhammad Ishaq Dar meets Kyrgyzstan president Sadyr Zhaparov during the Kyrgyz leader’s first official visit to Pakistan, the Foreign Office said on Thursday. The meeting highlighted Pakistan’s commitment to expanding cooperation with Kyrgyzstan in multiple sectors, including trade, investment, and regional connectivity.
Zhaparov arrived in Islamabad on Wednesday for a two-day visit, marking the first trip by a Kyrgyz president in two decades. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif welcomed the visit, calling it an important step toward deepening ties between the two Central Asian partners.
According to the FO, Muhammad Ishaq Dar meets Kyrgyzstan president Zhaparov and conveyed warm greetings from President Asif Ali Zardari and PM Shehbaz. Muhammad Ishaq Dar reaffirmed that Pakistan remains fully committed, at the highest political level, to enhancing relations in all areas of mutual interest. He also highlighted the historical and cultural bonds that shape the longstanding friendship between the two nations.
The FO added that Dar briefed Zhaparov on his upcoming engagements in Pakistan, including interactions with government officials and business leaders. Their discussions are expected to support broad-based cooperation and open new opportunities for joint ventures.
During the visit, several memorandums of understanding are likely to be signed, covering trade, investment, information technology, natural resources, and defence. Officials familiar with the arrangements said both sides aim to accelerate economic and strategic collaboration in the coming months.
This year, Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan have taken multiple steps to deepen economic relations. Both countries agreed to strengthen cooperation in cryptocurrency, blockchain technology, and digital finance in August. They also reaffirmed plans in July to boost bilateral trade to $100 million during a session of their intergovernmental commission.
