A heartbreaking case has emerged from Mianwali, where parents allegedly killed their two-month-old daughter because they were unhappy with the birth of a second girl. Police confirmed that the incident took place in Haranwali village, a rural area in the Mianwali district.
According to officials, the infant was born only two months ago, but her parents were reportedly displeased with the arrival of another daughter. Police said the parents allegedly drowned the baby in a water tank. The father has already been arrested, while efforts are underway to locate and arrest the mother. A case has been registered against both parents under government authority.
Police further revealed that the father confessed to the crime. He stated that he had hoped for a son and became upset when another daughter was born. The tragic incident has sparked concern about gender-based violence in the Mianwali region and beyond.
This case is not the first of its kind in Punjab. Last year, a similar tragedy unfolded in Faisalabad, where a man allegedly murdered his pregnant wife after discovering she was expecting a third daughter. The incident occurred in Chak 210-RB Lakhwana and involved 28-year-old Aiman Fatima, a mother of two young daughters.
Police reports state that Aimanโs husband, Nadeem Sajjad, arranged an ultrasound that revealed the unborn baby was a girl. Enraged, he and his brother, Phool Abbas, allegedly beat Aiman so severely that she died at the scene. Authorities later arrested both men.
These incidents highlight a troubling pattern of gender-based violence linked to entrenched social attitudes. The authorities have emphasized the need for strict legal action to deter such crimes and protect vulnerable women and children.
