Disney’s Live-Action ‘Tangled’ Remake Gears Up, New Cast Rumors Emerge

Disney’s live-action remake of Tangled is reportedly moving ahead after production was previously paused following the underperformance of Snow White. The project has gained attention with rumors about casting and crew developments.

According to Nexus Point News, four rising actresses—Sadie Sink, Mckenna Grace, Emma Myers, and Isabel May—are being considered for the role of Rapunzel. While formal screen tests remain unconfirmed, multiple sources reportedly favor Sadie Sink for the iconic role.

In addition, entertainment reports suggested that Scarlett Johansson was approached to play Mother Gothel. However, she reportedly declined the opportunity, which coincides with her focus on other projects, including Matt Reeves’ The Batman sequel.

On the director’s front, early speculation linked Baz Luhrmann to the project, but The Hollywood Reporter confirms that Michael Gracey, known for The Greatest Showman, remains attached to helm the film. His musical background is expected to shape the remake’s tone, blending fairy tale elements with vibrant musical sequences.

The screenplay has been written by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, recognized for her work on the I Know What You Did Last Summer legacy sequel. The production team includes Kristin Burr of Burr! Productions and Emmy-winning producer Lucy Kitada, known for The Baby-Sitters Club.

The 2010 animated original reimagined the classic Rapunzel tale, centering on a princess confined in a tower by Mother Gothel, who exploits Rapunzel’s magical hair to preserve her youth. The story follows Rapunzel’s first venture into the outside world after meeting Flynn Rider at age 18.

As Disney’s live-action remake progresses, fans are closely watching updates on casting, production, and potential release dates. While no official schedule has been announced, industry insiders suggest that more information will be revealed as development continues.

The remake is poised to bring a fresh musical take on the beloved animated film, continuing Disney’s trend of reimagining its classic animated hits for live-action audiences.
