NADRA PakID App Unveils New Feature—Users Surprised by the Upgrade

ISLAMABAD: The Directorate General of Immigration and Passports, in partnership with NADRA, has launched a new digital system to simplify fingerprint verification for passport applicants. The update allows users to confirm their fingerprints through the NADRA PAKID mobile app without visiting any office.

According to officials, anyone applying for a new passport can complete biometric verification at home using the app. If fingerprint scanning does not work, the NADRA PAKID app also offers facial recognition to complete the process smoothly.

To apply online, citizens must first visit the official passport web portal. After reaching the fingerprint verification stage, applicants are required to log in to the NADRA PAKID app. They can then select the “Online Passport” option, enter their passport tracking ID and CNIC number, and complete biometric verification. Once confirmed, a notification appears, directing applicants back to the web portal to finish the remaining steps.

The Directorate General of Immigration and Passports stated that the new system is part of a broader effort to make passport applications faster and more accessible. With the online passport application process now active through the e-Services Portal, citizens no longer need to stand in long queues.

In a video shared on social media, the Passport Department explained that users can submit online renewal applications at the official website. Existing users must log in with their registered email, while new users need to create an account. The registration process requires accurate mobile and email details, after which a verification link is sent to the applicant.

Once verified, users can log in and choose from five different service options based on their needs. However, officials clarified that only passports with less than one year of validity can be renewed online, and major changes such as name or occupation updates are not allowed through the digital system.
