Pakistan Launches Its First Drone Unit To Boost Police Surveillance

Police authorities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) announced plans to establish Pakistan’s first drone unit at the Nowshera Police Training Centre. The unit will feature a wide array of advanced systems, including surveillance drones, attack drones, anti-drone technology, operational drones, and jamming equipment.

Officials confirmed that groundwork for Pakistan’s first drone unit has already started. A specialized IT team has been assigned to design and develop the system, while personnel selected for the unit are undergoing intensive training in drone technology. The first batch has also started a modern IT course tailored for drone operations.

The drone unit will be equipped with high-resolution cameras, attack drones, and advanced jamming systems. KP Police recently conducted trial flights and technology tests, which were reported as successful. These trials marked an important step toward operational readiness.

Once training is completed, the drone teams will be deployed across multiple districts. Priority will be given to southern regions, where militants have increasingly used drones in recent attacks. The unit aims to enhance surveillance, intelligence gathering, and rapid response capabilities.

This initiative follows KP Police’s earlier move to form a specialized Sniper Squad. The squad is trained with advanced weaponry and modern tactical techniques. According to the Central Police Office (CPO) Peshawar, sniper units will operate in mountainous valleys, border belts, and southern districts to support ongoing counterterrorism operations.

Each sniper unit consists of ten highly trained personnel capable of engaging concealed or long-range targets with precision. Officials say the combination of drones and sniper squads will strengthen KP Police’s operational effectiveness.

By introducing Pakistan’s first drone unit, authorities aim to modernize law enforcement and ensure safer communities. The initiative reflects the growing importance of technology in maintaining security and countering emerging threats.
