Coach Assaulted At CAP Indoor Nets, Police Launch Investigation

Indian media report that a coach assaulted at CAPโ€™s indoor nets suffered serious injuries. Venkataraman, the coach, sustained a head injury requiring 20 stitches and a fractured shoulder. Sedarapet police have registered an FIR in the case.

Police confirmed that Venkataraman is now in stable condition. The accused players fled the scene, and police are conducting raids to apprehend them.

The coach identified the assailants as senior cricketer Karthikeyan Jayasundaram and first-class players A. Aravinddaraj and S. Santhosh Kumaran. He also alleged that G. Chandran, secretary of the Bharathidasan Pondicherry Cricketersโ€™ Forum, incited the attack and threatened him.

The Bharathidasan Forum denied any involvement, stating that Venkataraman had ongoing disputes and strained relations with local players.

The assault occurred amid ongoing controversy at CAP. Media reports claimed manipulation within the association, with local players allegedly denied opportunities in favor of โ€œoutstationโ€ players. Some players were reportedly using forged domicile documents to gain selection.

BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia acknowledged the reports, saying they raise โ€œserious issuesโ€ that require examination. CAP CEO Raju Mehta defended the associationโ€™s governance and reiterated that there is โ€œzero tolerance for corruption.โ€

This incident highlights growing concerns about safety and transparency in local cricket administration. The coach assaulted has received medical care, while authorities continue efforts to arrest the perpetrators.

Police continue investigating the case and tracking the accused players. Fans and local cricket officials have expressed shock and called for stronger oversight to prevent similar incidents in the future.

The case of the coach assaulted at CAP nets serves as a reminder of the need for proper governance and player accountability in sports organizations across the region.
