The decision to hold this summit in Pakistan was made at the 2019 D-8 Ministerial summit in Malaysia. The meeting, however, had to be postponed in 2021 because to the enormous obstacles provided by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Awn Chaudhry, Advisor to the Prime Minister on Tourism & Sports and PTDC Chairman, chaired an inter-ministerial meeting on the preparation and organization of the D-8 Ministerial Meeting, emphasizing that the event aimed to promote Pakistan’s vast tourism potential and explore tourism trade opportunities among member states. He emphasized that the summit might open up new opportunities for socioeconomic development.
The major goal of the meeting is to identify potential pathways to improve intra-D-8 tourism that match with the D-8 organization’s objectives and ambitions. Furthermore, the event aims to bring together tourism professionals from member countries in order to build their capacities and develop successful tourist policies for the post-COVID-19 age.
It will serve as a forum for member nations to share information and best practices while also developing collaboration opportunities and investigating ways to increase bilateral tourism among the D-8 countries.
The Developing Eight (D-8) economic cooperation organization was founded in 1997 by eight developing countries: Pakistan, Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria, and Turkey.
