Karachi Transport Department Cracks Down On Vehicles With Fake Fitness Certificates

Senior Minister Sharjeel Memon has directed the Karachi transport department to register cases against transporters using fake fitness certificates. The minister has also instructed the PTA Secretary to submit a detailed report within three days. Route permits of violators will be canceled immediately.

Memon said some transporters were obtaining counterfeit certificates to bypass physical inspections of their vehicles. He emphasized that using fake fitness certificates is illegal and poses a serious risk to public safety.

โ€œNo one will be allowed to compromise citizensโ€™ safety,โ€ Memon stated. He added that anyone involved in this illegal practice will face strict action without exception. The minister reaffirmed the governmentโ€™s commitment to making the transport system safe, transparent, and fully compliant with the law.

In a related initiative, Karachi police announced a citywide crackdown on vehicles displaying fancy or illegal number plates. Additional Inspector General of Police Karachi (AIGP) Javed Alam Odho said the operation will begin on Friday, 19 December 2025. Authorities aim to curb attempts by motorists to evade traffic penalties using fake, altered, or concealed registration numbers.

The press conference was attended by Chief Citizens Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) Zubair Habib, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Traffic Pir Muhammad Shah, and Director Excise Motor Registration Shabana Baloch. Officials highlighted that the crackdown will work alongside measures implemented by the Karachi transport department to ensure vehicle compliance and road safety.

The Karachi transport department has been urged to closely monitor vehicle inspections and documentation to prevent further misuse of fitness certificates. Authorities expect that combined efforts between transport officials and law enforcement will improve accountability and reduce traffic violations across the city.

These measures aim to strengthen public confidence in Karachiโ€™s transport system while ensuring adherence to traffic laws and regulations.
