Netflix has unveiled episode titles for the upcoming limited series adaptation of John Steinbeck’s classic novel, East of Eden. The series will consist of seven episodes, with the premiere titled Part 1: Genesis and the final episode named Part 7: East of Eden.
The series was first announced in 2022, with Oscar-nominated Florence Pugh set to star and co-produce. Pugh will play Cathy Ames, a central character in the multi-generational Trask family saga. The series is co-executive-produced and co-showrun by Jeb Stuart and Zoe Kazan.
Zoe Kazan, known for Clickbait and The Plot Against America, has adapted Steinbeck’s novel for the screen. She has said that the story’s themes of family and identity deeply resonate with her personally. Kazan also noted the significance of adapting the novel decades after her grandfather, Elia Kazan, directed the 1955 film version of East of Eden.
The series features a talented ensemble cast including Mike Faist, Tracy Letts, Martha Plimpton, Ciarán Hinds, and Joseph Zada. The first four episodes are directed by Garth Davis, known for Lion and Mary Magdalene. The remaining three episodes are directed by Laure de Clermont-Tonnerre, who previously worked on The Mustang and The Act.
Netflix has not announced an official release date yet. However, industry sources suggest the series may premiere in early 2026, potentially between February and April. Fans of the novel and previous adaptations are eagerly anticipating the new series.
With its rich storytelling and star-studded cast, East of Eden promises to bring Steinbeck’s classic tale to life for modern audiences. The adaptation aims to explore complex family dynamics while staying true to the essence of the original novel.
East of Eden is expected to be one of Netflix’s major releases in 2026, combining literary prestige with cinematic storytelling.
