Winter Rains Hit Balochistan, Deepening The Cold Spell

A westerly wave brought winter rain to several areas of Balochistan, intensifying the regionโ€™s already cold weather. Cities including Quetta, Chaman, Kalat, Panjgur, Gwadar, and Kharan experienced rainfall, causing temperatures to drop further.

Tehsil Baseema and surrounding areas in Washuk district received heavy to moderate rain. Other districts, including Ziarat, Gwadar, Harnai, Kalat, Chagai, Nushki, Panjgur, and Kech, also reported rainfall. Snowfall is expected in higher altitude regions, including Killa Abdullah, Musakhel, and Zhob.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) had forecast this winter rain and snowfall following the arrival of a western disturbance in Balochistan on 19th December. The weather system is expected to affect upper parts of the country on 20th December.

PMD predicted rain and snow in several districts, including Quetta, Ziarat, Chaman, Pishin, Qilla Abdullah, Qilla Saifullah, Nushki, Harnai, Zhob, Musakhel, Turbat, Gwadar, Jiwani, Lasbella, Kech, Awaran, Panjgur, Khuzdar, Washuk, Chagai, Kharan, and Kalat. The precipitation is expected to continue from the evening of 19th December into 20th December.

In Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, rainfall with moderate snowfall is forecast in upper areas of Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Kohistan, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Bunner, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Orakzai, Kurram, Waziristan, Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Swabi, Bannu, Karak, D.I. Khan, Tank, and Kohat districts from the night of 20th December to 22nd December.

Additionally, the Met Office predicts rainfall with moderate to heavy snow in Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan from the night of 20th December to the morning of 23rd December. Rain is also expected in the Potohar region.

The winter rain has brought relief to some areas but has also intensified the cold, affecting daily life across Balochistan and surrounding regions. Residents are advised to take precautions during this period of heavy rain and snowfall.
