ISLAMABAD – Prominent Pakistani businessman Arif Habib has announced a major expansion plan for Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) following the successful acquisition of the national carrier. Speaking to media representatives in Islamabad, he shared details about the future roadmap for the airline and expressed confidence in its revival.
According to Arif Habib, the total number of aircraft in PIA’s fleet will be increased from the current 38 to 65. He said this expansion will be carried out in phases to ensure smooth operations and financial stability. In the initial phase, the focus will be on restoring and operating 38 aircraft efficiently. After that, the fleet size will gradually be expanded to 65 planes.
He praised the federal government for conducting the privatization process in a transparent and professional manner. He added that the bidding process was fair and competitive. He said such transparency sends a positive signal to local and international investors.
Arif Habib stated that this development is not just a business success but also a positive moment for Pakistan’s economy. He said foreign investors closely watch such reforms. Successful privatization, he noted, can improve investor confidence and encourage new investments in the country.
While talking about PIA’s past, he said the airline once enjoyed a strong reputation in the region. He believes that with proper management and investment, the airline can regain its lost position. He stressed that operational efficiency and customer service will remain key priorities.
Addressing concerns about employees, Arif Habib said the existing staff will be given confidence and job security. He added that no abrupt decisions will be taken regarding employees. Instead, efforts will be made to improve working conditions and performance standards.
He further said that the expansion plan will also create new employment opportunities. As the fleet grows, the airline will need more pilots, engineers, cabin crew, and ground staff. This, he said, will contribute positively to the job market.
