Afghanistan has officially announced its 15-member squad for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, set to be held in India and Sri Lanka in February.
The team will be led by star leg-spinner Rashid Khan, with Ibrahim Zadran serving as vice-captain. Key players Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Mohammad Ishaq, Sediqullah Atal, Darwish Rasooli, and Shahidullah Kamal are also included in the lineup.
Fazalhaq Farooqi and Gulbadin Naib, who missed the recent series against Bangladesh, have been recalled to strengthen the squad ahead of the T20 World Cup 2026. Veteran players Mohammad Nabi, Noor Ahmad, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Naveen-ul-Haq, Azmatullah Omarzai, and Abdullah Ahmadzai complete the squad.
Three reserves—AM Ghazanfar, Ejaz Ahmadzai, and Zia-ur-Rehman Sharifi—have also been named to support the main team if needed.
Ahead of the World Cup, Afghanistan will play a three-match T20 series against the West Indies in the United Arab Emirates. The series, scheduled from January 19 to 22, will provide crucial practice and help finalize strategies before the T20 World Cup 2026, which begins on February 7.
Team management emphasized the importance of balancing experienced players and young talent. Rashid Khan, the team captain, said, “We are excited to compete in the World Cup and will give our best to represent Afghanistan.”
Cricket fans around the world are eagerly awaiting Afghanistan’s performance, especially after the team’s impressive displays in previous T20 tournaments. Analysts expect the squad to be competitive, with Rashid Khan leading from the front in both leadership and performance.
