Historic Record in Fertilizer Sales Boosts Pakistan’s Agriculture

ISLAMABAD – Fertilizer sales in Pakistan have reached a historic high, marking a significant boost for Pakistan’s Agriculture sector. According to the National Fertilizer Development Centre, urea sales hit a record 1.356 million tonnes in December 2025, the highest ever recorded. This represents a 37% increase year-on-year and a 65% rise month-on-month nationwide.

Despite a slight 4% decline in urea sales during November 2025, December saw strong growth in demand. Phosphorus fertilizer DAP also performed well, with sales reaching 800,000 tonnes. DAP sales rose 67% month-on-month and 42% year-on-year, reflecting growing agricultural activity.

Fertilizer companies supported farmers with discounts to meet increased demand. Engro Fertilizers offered up to Rs400 off per bag of urea in December 2025, while Fauji Fertilizer Company provided discounts ranging from Rs150 to Rs200 per bag. These efforts helped stabilize supply and made fertilizers more accessible to farmers.

By the end of December, national urea stocks declined to 315,000 tonnes, while DAP closing stocks stood at 219,000 tonnes. Experts attribute the surge in fertilizer demand to the Rabi season, which has seen higher cultivation activity and renewed focus on crop production.

Officials said that this historic increase in fertilizer sales is a positive sign for Pakistan’s Agriculture, as it ensures sufficient nutrient supply for crops, supporting both food security and farm income. Rising fertilizer usage also highlights the ongoing modernization and expansion of farming practices across the country.

Analysts believe that the strong demand for fertilizers will continue in early 2026 as farmers prepare for planting and harvesting cycles. They noted that sustained fertilizer availability is critical to maintaining growth in Pakistan’s Agriculture and achieving higher crop yields.
