Viral Video Shows Karachi Girl Injured By Bullet Amid New Year Celebrations

A seven-year-old girl, Fareeha, was injured after being struck by a bullet fired into the air during New Year celebrations in Karachi. A video capturing the incident has gone viral, raising alarm over the dangers of aerial firing.

The video shows Fareeha standing on her home balcony near Safora, recording fireworks along with other children, when she is suddenly hit. She initially thought a firecracker had caused her injury. However, X-rays later confirmed a bullet was lodged in her shoulder. Doctors have said surgery has not yet been performed.

Fareeha was first admitted to a private hospital, then transferred to a government facility, and later returned to private care for further treatment. Authorities stated that her family has been contacted, though no formal case has been registered so far.

Social media users have expressed outrage, condemning the reckless firing that endangered innocent lives. Police reiterated warnings against aerial firing and confirmed that an investigation into the incident is underway.

At Least 28 Injured in Karachi by Aerial Bullets

The New Year 2026 celebrations in Karachi saw at least 28 people injured by aerial firing. Among the victims were six women and two young girls, including eight-year-old Fareeha and 11-year-old Mah Jabeen in Korangi Area Market.

Other injured individuals included 18-year-old Wajiha in Mahmoodabad, 40-year-old Aleena in Qayyumabad, and several adults across the city. Rescue officials reported injuries in multiple neighborhoods, including Gulzar-e-Hijri, Azam Basti, Pak Colony, Liaquatabad, and Korangi.

Authorities warned that firing guns into the air is extremely dangerous. Even a single bullet fired randomly can travel long distances and cause life-threatening injuries. Citizens are urged to celebrate safely and follow the law to prevent further tragedies.

Police confirmed ongoing investigations and promised stricter monitoring in residential areas to curb aerial firing during celebrations.
