Residents of Karachi have been warned of a temporary Karachi water disruption as the old Pipri Pumping Station undergoes scheduled maintenance. The Water Corporation announced that the station will remain closed from January 10 to January 13. During this four-day period, water supply from the old facility will be completely suspended.
Authorities clarified that while the old Pipri Pumping Station is offline, the new Pipri Pumping Station will continue to operate and supply water to some areas. However, neighborhoods such as Malir, Shah Faisal Colony, and Model Town will experience significant Karachi water disruption during the maintenance work.
In addition, the Water Corporation reported that Landhi and Sherpao hydrants will also remain temporarily closed, adding to water supply difficulties for residents. Citizens in affected areas have been advised to store sufficient water in advance to manage household needs during the shutdown.
The spokesperson emphasized that the maintenance work is essential to ensure the long-term functionality and safety of the water supply system. โThis temporary disruption is necessary for system improvements, and normal water supply will resume promptly after the work is completed,โ officials said.
Earlier, K-Electric (KE) announced its winter transmission network maintenance schedule for electricity infrastructure in Karachi. While not directly related to water, these activities demonstrate the cityโs focus on maintaining critical public services. KE spokesperson Imran Rana explained that 14 out of 74 grid stations will undergo preventive maintenance during December, with alternate measures in place to maintain electricity supply.
The Karachi water disruption highlights the importance of proactive planning by residents and authorities alike. Citizens are urged to remain informed through official channels and prepare for the temporary interruption in water services.
This maintenance is part of ongoing efforts by the city to ensure reliable utility services and infrastructure improvements, aiming to prevent longer-term outages and enhance service quality for all residents.
