Are Punjab Schools Winter Vacations Being Extended?

LAHORE โ€“ Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat has dismissed rumours about extending winter vacations in schools and colleges across the province.

The minister confirmed that all educational institutions will reopen as scheduled on January 12, 2026. He clarified that a viral notification claiming an extension of holidays is completely fake.

โ€œNo official announcement has been made by the Education Department regarding an extension,โ€ Hayat said, stressing that winter vacations will end as planned.

In Punjab, winter vacations for both public and private schools began on December 22, 2025, and will conclude on January 10, 2026. Students and teachers are expected to return to schools on this date to resume academic activities.

The Education Minister also addressed the schedule for board examinations. Matriculation exams, originally set for March 3, will now be conducted after Eid ul Fitr. Similarly, intermediate examinations have also been rescheduled to take place after the festival.

Hayat urged parents, students, and staff to rely on official announcements only and ignore misinformation circulating on social media. He emphasized that the government remains committed to maintaining a clear and consistent academic calendar.

The clarification comes amid widespread online speculation, which created confusion among students and parents regarding the reopening of schools and colleges. Authorities have assured that there will be no further changes in the winter vacations schedule.
