Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng is set to arrive in Pakistan today for a three-day visit to participate in a ceremony commemorating 10 years of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project. The visit, which is at the invitation of the federal government, will take place from July 30 to August 1, during which Lifeng will serve as the chief guest at the ceremony celebrating the decade of CPEC.
During his visit, the Chinese vice premier will also hold meetings with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and President Arif Alvi, as stated by the Foreign Office. He Lifeng has been a key figure in China’s international economic relations and has played a significant role in the implementation of the Belt and Road Initiative, with CPEC being a flagship project under this initiative.

As the chairman of the National Development and Reform Commission from 2017 to 2023, Lifeng has been instrumental in planning and executing multiple CPEC projects in Pakistan, according to the Foreign Office.

CPEC, launched in 2013, encompasses a wide range of infrastructure and development projects in Pakistan. The initiative aims to modernize the country’s transportation networks, establish various energy projects, and create special economic zones to boost its economy. Since its inception, CPEC has received significant Chinese investment, amounting to $25.4 billion, allocated to various transport, energy, and infrastructure schemes under the Belt and Road Initiative. It has become a crucial component of Beijing’s broader vision for connectivity and investment corridors in the region.
