Actor From ‘Three Idiots’ Makes Debut in Bengali Cinema

Sharman Joshi, widely known for his role in the hit film Three Idiots, is now stepping into Bengali cinema with his upcoming movie Bhalobashar Morshum.

Reflecting on this new journey, Joshi said, “I had a good time making the movie. We still have one week’s schedule left, and it has been a thrilling first-time experience for me.”

The actor shared that working in Bengali posed unique challenges. “I had the English and Hindi adaptations of the script. Bengali was entirely foreign to me. The chief AD guided me before every scene, and I was able to deliver my lines while emoting correctly,” he explained.

Despite his efforts, Joshi admitted he relied on a dubbing artist for the final version. “I’m not good with languages. Even in Hindi films, I hardly remember all my dialogues. A theatre director taught me to forget everything from past roles before starting new work. This has become my practice now,” he added.

Joshi’s fans remember him fondly from Three Idiots, which established him as a talented actor in both comedy and drama. His transition into regional cinema shows his desire to explore diverse roles and languages beyond Bollywood.

In addition to Bhalobashar Morshum, Joshi is returning to theatre with an English play opening on January 25. The play features two stories: Dear Sundari, a cross-cultural romantic comedy-drama tackling language challenges, and Goodbye Kiss, a conversation between a departing actor and the spirit of theatre.

Speaking about his return to theatre, Joshi said, “English is the language I am most comfortable in, and this play allows me to reconnect with my roots while exploring meaningful narratives.”

From his acclaimed performance in Three Idiots to embracing Bengali cinema and theatre, Sharman Joshi continues to expand his acting horizons. Audiences are eagerly waiting to see how he brings his versatile talent to new stages and screens.
