PESHAWAR โ The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has announced plans to launch 10,000 e-rickshaws in Peshawar. The initiative aims to provide affordable and eco-friendly public transport for city commuters.
Officials said the project will help reduce traffic congestion and lower air pollution. By promoting e-rickshaws, the government hopes to decrease reliance on fossil fuels while offering cost-effective travel options.
The rollout will be conducted in phases, incorporating modern battery technology for better efficiency. Digital registration and monitoring systems will be used to ensure transparency and smooth operation.
The e-rickshaws will be integrated with the cityโs existing Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system. This will enhance connectivity, particularly for last-mile travel, making commuting more convenient for residents.
KPโs government emphasized that the project aligns with its broader vision of sustainable urban development and green energy adoption. Officials also highlighted the potential for job creation, as thousands of drivers and support staff will be needed to operate and maintain the fleet.
The Chief Ministerโs office stated that e-rickshaws are expected to lower travel costs for passengers while minimizing environmental impact. The initiative is part of a long-term plan to promote renewable energy in public transportation and improve the overall quality of life in Peshawar.
Experts say the introduction of electric vehicles like e-rickshaws will not only reduce emissions but also encourage other cities to adopt similar sustainable transport solutions. The project is seen as a step toward cleaner, greener urban mobility in Pakistan.
By combining innovation, affordability, and environmental responsibility, the KP government hopes the e-rickshaw initiative will become a model for sustainable transport in the country, benefiting both commuters and the environment.
