A devastating Kohat landslide in Qamar village, tehsil Gambat, has killed four people and trapped two others under massive boulders.
Rescue 1122 teams rushed to the scene after receiving reports of the incident. Officials confirmed that the four bodies were recovered after strenuous efforts, while search operations continue for the remaining two trapped individuals.
Eyewitnesses said the Kohat landslide struck suddenly, burying several people under tonnes of earth and rocks. Police reported that four others were rescued alive but remain in critical condition.
Officials added that the victims were working to repair a flood-damaged water channel when the landslide occurred, highlighting the risks faced by locals during repair and relief operations.
This incident follows a series of landslides across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa last year, caused by heavy monsoon rains. Several lives were lost after cloudbursts triggered landslides in mountainous areas.
In August last year, eight local volunteers died in a massive landslide in Gilgit while trying to repair a flood-damaged nullah. The disaster left multiple others injured, prompting hospitals to place emergency services on high alert.
Authorities have urged villagers to remain cautious, especially in mountainous and flood-prone regions, as the weather continues to worsen. Rescue teams are working round the clock to locate the trapped victims and provide assistance to affected families.
The Kohat landslide underscores the increasing threat of natural disasters in the region, emphasizing the need for timely warnings, preparedness, and proper infrastructure to minimize casualties.
