The Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) successfully carried out its first full-scale Airport Emergency Exercise 2026 at the New Gwadar International Airport (Gwadar Airport), following international safety standards. The exercise aimed to test the airport’s emergency preparedness and response capabilities.
The full-scale drill simulated a mock aircraft accident with fire, challenging the fire-fighting and rescue teams to respond quickly under realistic conditions. Teams demonstrated coordinated efforts to extinguish flames and evacuate passengers efficiently.
Earlier in 2025, PAA had conducted the first nighttime fire emergency drill at Gwadar Airport. Building on that experience, this latest exercise included more complex scenarios and involved multiple agencies for better inter-agency coordination.
During the exercise, a triage zone was established where medical staff classified casualties and provided immediate first aid according to the severity of injuries. This ensured a realistic assessment of medical response under emergency conditions.
The drill involved active participation from the Airport Security Force (ASF), rescue and fire-fighting teams, medical personnel, and support agencies. Each group worked closely to ensure smooth execution of the Airport Emergency Plan (AEP).
Supervised by the Chief Fire and Rescue Officer (CFRO), the exercise also evaluated the field command structure and decision-making protocols. Officials praised the teams for their swift response and highlighted the importance of such drills in maintaining safety at Gwadar Airport.
PAA emphasized that regular emergency exercises are crucial for preparing staff to handle real-life incidents effectively. The authority also confirmed that future drills will continue to improve operational readiness and safety standards at Gwadar Airport.
