Weather Alert: Rain And Snowfall Likely Nationwide, Lahore Included

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a fresh weather forecast, saying rain, snowfall predicted in several parts of the country over the coming days.

According to the Met Office, a shallow westerly wave is expected to approach the upper regions from January 16. This system may persist until January 19, bringing cold and unsettled weather conditions.

PMD said the weather system is likely to strengthen from January 20. It may then affect most parts of the country from January 21 onwards.

Under this system, rain and windstorms with light to moderate snowfall are expected in Gilgit-Baltistan. Affected areas include Diamir, Astore, Ghizer, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Ghanche, and Shigar.

Similar weather is expected in Azad Jammu and Kashmir. Forecast areas include Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Poonch, Bagh, Haveli, and Rawalakot.

Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa may also experience rain and snow. Areas such as Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kalam, Shangla, Kohistan, Mansehra, and Abbottabad are likely to be affected from January 16 to 19, with occasional breaks.

PMD added that light rain and snowfall may occur in Murree and the Galliyat region between January 18 and 20.

From January 20 to 23, widespread rain is expected in many cities. These include Islamabad, Lahore, Faisalabad, Multan, Sahiwal, Bahawalpur, and Dera Ghazi Khan. During this period, rain, snowfall predicted for northern and hilly regions may disrupt daily routines.

Heavy snowfall is forecast for Chitral, Swat, Kalam, Murree, Galliyat, Neelum Valley, and surrounding areas from January 20 night to January 23.

Balochistan is also expected to receive rain and snowfall. Cities such as Quetta, Ziarat, Zhob, Kalat, and Chaman may see moderate to heavy snowfall on January 21 and 22.

Sindh may experience rain in Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur, Larkana, and Mirpurkhas from January 22 to 23.

Authorities have advised citizens to remain cautious, especially in mountainous areas. Travelers should prepare for road closures and slippery conditions as rain, snowfall predicted across wide regions.

PMD urged people to stay updated with official forecasts and take precautionary measures during severe weather.
