Australia Announces Squad for T20 Series Against Pakistan

LAHORE โ€” The Australia menโ€™s cricket team will tour Pakistan for a three-match T20 international series ahead of the ICC Menโ€™s T20 World Cup. All matches are scheduled to be played at Lahoreโ€™s Gaddafi Stadium on January 29, January 31, and February 1.

The series will help Australia finalize preparations for the global tournament. It also coincides with the finals of Australiaโ€™s domestic T20 competition, the Big Bash League, meaning some players will join the national squad after completing their franchise commitments.

Mitchell Marsh will lead the Australian side as captain. Key players such as Travis Head, Cameron Green, and Josh Inglis, who recently featured in Australiaโ€™s Ashes series against England, are also part of the squad. Several high-profile players, including Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, Glenn Maxwell, Tim David, and Nathan Ellis, will not travel to Pakistan due to injury management or workload concerns.

To strengthen the squad, selectors have included emerging players and fringe talent. Sean Abbott, Mahli Beardman, Ben Dwarshuis, Jack Edwards, Mitch Owen, Josh Philippe, and Matt Renshaw have been called up. Young fast bowler Mahli Beardman and all-rounder Jack Edwards earned their spots after impressive performances in the Big Bash League. Both players remain uncapped at international level but have previously trained with the national team.

George Bailey, Chair of Selectors for Australia, said the Pakistan series provides an important opportunity for young and fringe players to gain experience ahead of the World Cup. He added that the matches will allow selectors to assess promising talent in real match situations.

The Australian squad traveling to Pakistan includes Mitchell Marsh (c), Sean Abbott, Xavier Bartlett, Mahli Beardman, Cooper Connolly, Ben Dwarshuis, Jack Edwards, Cameron Green, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Matthew Kuhnemann, Mitch Owen, Josh Philippe, Matthew Renshaw, Matt Short, Marcus Stoinis, and Adam Zampa.
