Fazl ur Rehman Urges People To Mark February 8 As Black Day

Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) chief Maulana Fazl ur Rehman has said his party is likely to observe black day on February 8. He made the remarks while addressing the National Assembly on Thursday.

Speaking on the floor of the house, Fazl ur Rehman said efforts toward political reconciliation had failed. He stated that his partyโ€™s intentions for dialogue were โ€œcrushed,โ€ leaving no option but protest. He added that the decision to observe black day reflects growing frustration with the current situation.

The JUI leader raised serious concerns about law and order in parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He said armed men had taken control of mountainous areas in his region. According to him, the writ of the state no longer exists in several districts.

โ€œThere is no government in Tank, Lakki Marwat, and Bannu,โ€ he told lawmakers. He described the situation as alarming and said residents were living in fear.

Fazl ur Rehman further claimed that government officers, contractors, and traders are paying extortion money to stay alive. He said people are being forced to comply with illegal demands due to the absence of effective governance.

The veteran parliamentarian criticized the authorities for failing to protect citizens. He urged the government to take immediate steps to restore peace and ensure security in the affected areas.

He said the decision to observe black day is meant to draw attention to these issues. According to him, the protest will highlight political injustice, poor governance, and worsening security conditions.

JUI leaders have not yet released full details about planned activities on February 8. However, party sources say peaceful protests and public statements are expected across different regions.

The statement comes at a time when opposition parties continue to voice concerns over political stability and public safety. Observers say the announcement could further intensify political pressure on the government.

Maulana Fazl ur Rehman concluded by saying that silence is no longer an option. He stressed that meaningful action is needed to address the growing challenges facing the country.
