Following the directive of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, Safe City has launched a specialised service to provide mental health support to individuals in distress. The service is available through the Punjab Emergency Helpline 15.
Citizens experiencing stress, hopelessness, or suicidal thoughts can dial 15 and press 7 to connect directly with trained psychologists. Safe City ensures immediate counselling through conference calls with expert professionals.
A Safe City spokesperson said the initiative aims to provide timely mental health support and prevent potential suicides. โImmediate access to trained psychologists can save lives,โ the spokesperson added.
In 2025, the Emergency Helpline 15 received 2,327 calls related to mental distress and suicidal tendencies. Out of these, 2,269 individuals were successfully provided counselling, highlighting the effectiveness of the program.
The success rate of the helplineโs counselling service has been reported at 98 percent. Among the callers, 56 percent were men, while 44 percent were women. The helpline ensures that all individuals receive confidential and expert care.
Experts believe that expanding mental health support through accessible platforms is crucial in addressing rising stress and anxiety in the population. Early intervention and professional guidance are key to improving emotional wellbeing.
Authorities encourage citizens to use the helpline whenever needed and assure that the service is available 24/7. The initiative demonstrates Punjabโs commitment to enhancing mental health care and providing immediate assistance to those in need.
Safe City also plans to conduct awareness campaigns about mental health and stress management. Officials hope this will reduce stigma and encourage more people to seek mental health support when required.
The new counselling service is part of broader efforts to strengthen public health infrastructure and ensure that citizens facing psychological challenges receive professional and timely care.
