Owning a home has long remained a distant dream for many families across Punjab. Rising costs and limited access to loans made housing difficult. The ** Apni Chhat Apna Ghar Program ** is now changing that reality. The initiative aims to make homeownership possible for low-income and middle-class families.
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has expanded the project to support joint family living. The updated plan focuses on shared homes and special facilities. It reflects traditional family values while addressing modern housing needs. The scheme now allows extended families to live together under one roof.
Under the expanded ** Apni Chhat Apna Ghar Program **, joint families can apply for interest-free loans. These loans support home extensions and shared living spaces. The design includes shared kitchens and courtyards. This approach helps preserve long-standing cultural traditions.
The chief minister personally approved the expansion. Officials describe it as a historic step in Punjab’s housing reforms. The government plans to build 160,000 new homes by June this year. This ambitious target shows the scale of the project.
The program also supports citizens who do not own land. Under the “Apni Zameen, Apna Ghar” initiative, eligible families receive plots. They also get interest-free loans to build homes. This step removes a major barrier to homeownership.
To speed up progress, funding for the project has been increased. CM Maryam Nawaz chaired a high-level meeting with housing officials. The briefing shared updated figures on registrations and applications. Over 1.88 million users have registered so far. More than 1.06 million have submitted applications.
Work is already underway across the province. Authorities have completed 67,197 houses. Another 53,843 homes are currently under construction. The government has disbursed Rs. 164.66 billion in loans. The recovery rate stands at 99 percent.
The chief minister has ordered quick release of second loan installments. She also directed officials to create a support policy. This policy will help families if a beneficiary passes away. The goal is to protect families from future hardship.
