Imran Khan Refuses to Cooperate in X Account Investigation, NCCIA Tells IHC

The National Counter-Cyber Intelligence Agency has informed the Islamabad High Court about the status of an ongoing investigation. The agency said Imran Khan is not cooperating in inquiries related to his social media accounts.

The report was submitted during the hearing of a petition filed by Imran Khan. He had requested the suspension of his X account, formerly known as Twitter. NCCIA shared details of its investigation with the court.

According to the agency, two separate inquiries are currently underway. Both are linked to posts made from Imran Khan’s X account. The cases were registered on May 19 and September 13, 2024. These investigations are still pending.

NCCIA stated that its officials visited Adiala Jail several times. The visits were part of efforts to identify who operates the former prime minister’s X account. However, investigators were unable to determine who manages the account.

The agency told the court that Imran Khan did not cooperate during questioning. Officials said he refused to share information about who controls his social media activity. The lack of cooperation has delayed the investigation.

The report noted that NCCIA repeatedly asked about the account’s operation. Despite these efforts, no clarification was provided. As a result, the agency said the inquiry remains incomplete.

The investigation focuses on content shared through the X account. NCCIA did not disclose the specific nature of the tweets under review. Officials confirmed that both inquiries are active and ongoing.

During the court proceedings, NCCIA emphasized the need for cooperation. Investigators said identifying the account handler is essential for progress. Without this information, the agency cannot reach final conclusions.

The Islamabad High Court has taken the report on record. Further hearings are expected once additional details are reviewed. The court will decide on the petition after examining the investigation’s progress.
