Gul Plaza Fire: Sindh Cabinet Approves Rs10 Million Compensation For Victimsโ€™ Families

The Sindh provincial cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, met to discuss relief measures for Gul Plaza fire victims. During the meeting, officials updated the cabinet on support for affected shopkeepers.

The cabinet approves a payment of Rs500,000 to each shopkeeper to cover kitchen and utility expenses. This step aims to provide immediate financial relief to traders who lost property in the fire.

In addition, the cabinet approves interest-free loans of Rs10 million for each affected shopkeeper. Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah stated that the government will bear all interest costs. The loans are intended to help shopkeepers restart their businesses and recover from financial losses.

โ€œThe government has a collective responsibility to provide maximum relief to the victims,โ€ the Chief Minister said. He added that all shopkeepers would be provided with new shop facilities within two months, ensuring a quick resumption of business activities.

The fire at Gul Plaza occurred on the night of Saturday, January 17, on M.A. Jinnah Road. The massive blaze trapped dozens inside and took more than 32 hours to bring under control. The disaster exposed weaknesses in the cityโ€™s emergency response system, highlighting the need for better safety measures in commercial areas.

Officials confirmed that the cabinet approves all necessary measures to facilitate and protect the affected traders. Authorities are also coordinating with banks to expedite the disbursement of the interest-free loans.

Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah emphasized that the government is committed to supporting the victims and will monitor the implementation of all relief initiatives. He reassured that every effort will be made to ensure the affected shopkeepers can resume their livelihoods without further delay.

The decision by the Sindh cabinet marks a significant step in addressing the aftermath of the Gul Plaza fire, providing both immediate and long-term financial assistance to the traders.
