Lahore Authorities Recover Woman’s Body From Sewer; Minor Child Still Missing

Authorities confirmed that a woman’s body recovered from a sewer line on Outfall Road on Tuesday. The deceased, identified as 24-year-old Sadia, fell into the sewer earlier this week.

DIG Operations Faisal Kamran stated that the woman’s body recovered had been swept away due to the strong water flow. “The departments are working in coordination to handle the situation,” he added.

The search for Sadia’s 10-month-old daughter, Rida, is still ongoing. Rescue teams continue to inspect nearby sewer lines and drains in a bid to locate the infant. Officials urged the public to stay clear of the area to facilitate rescue operations.

A high-level committee has been formed to investigate the incident. DIG Kamran noted that the committee’s formal notification has already been issued. The inquiry will examine the circumstances leading to the accident and determine any lapses in safety measures.

Following the tragedy, Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz took immediate action. She ordered the suspension of officers responsible for negligence during the project. Project Director Zahid Abbas and Director Tipu Shabbir Hussain were suspended, according to the Punjab Housing Department.

“The suspensions are in line with the directives issued by the Chief Minister,” said a spokesperson. Authorities emphasized that accountability will be ensured, and all relevant departments are cooperating with the ongoing probe.

Residents in the area expressed shock and grief over the incident. Local officials have urged people to avoid walking near open sewer lines during the heavy water flow season, highlighting the need for stricter safety protocols.

As the investigation proceeds, authorities continue to focus on both the rescue of Rida and the examination of municipal procedures to prevent future accidents. The woman’s body recovered marks a tragic step in the ongoing emergency response, underscoring the urgency of improved urban safety measures.
