A CTD operation in Chapri successfully targeted a group of terrorists, resulting in six deaths and the recovery of a large cache of weapons, officials said.
According to a CTD spokesperson, the action was launched after receiving credible intelligence about the presence of militants in the area. As the teams approached the site, the terrorists opened fire, leading to a gunfight.
The spokesperson confirmed that six terrorists were killed due to firing from their own accomplices. Eight others managed to escape under the cover of darkness. Security forces recovered multiple arms and explosives, including suicide jackets, hand grenades, submachine guns (SMGs), ammunition, and explosive materials.
Following the encounter, CTD teams sealed off the area and started a search operation to apprehend the fleeing militants. Checkpoints have been established in and around Chapri to prevent the remaining terrorists from escaping.
Officials added that the terrorists had been planning attacks on police and other law enforcement agencies. The CTD operation aimed to stop these plots and secure the area for civilians.
Earlier this week, a separate CTD operation in Pishin district killed at least ten terrorists and left ten security personnel injured, officials reported.
At a joint press conference, Balochistan government spokesperson Shahid Rind and DIG CTD Balochistan Aetzaz Ahmed Goraya said that both operations followed intelligence reports identifying terrorists linked to banned organizations. Shahid Rind noted that authorities first asked the militants to surrender before taking action.
“We made efforts to persuade them to lay down their arms, but when they refused, the state had no option but to act,” Rind said. He added that the terrorists were in contact with banned groups planning violent activities.
The CTD operation in Chapri highlights ongoing efforts by law enforcement to counter terrorism in Balochistan and ensure the safety of local communities.
