Basant Festivities Set to Start With Rs300 Million Budget

The Punjab government has allocated Rs300 million for the inauguration and concluding ceremonies of Basant Festival 2026 in Lahore. The festival is scheduled to take place from February 6 to 8.

The opening ceremony of Basant will be held at Shahi Qila, while the concluding event will take place at Asif Jah Haveli. Over 500 guests are expected to attend both ceremonies. The event vendor, Jalal Salahuddin and Production, submitted a detailed expenditure report to the government.

Commissioner Maryam Khan has constituted joint teams of assistant commissioners and XENs to ensure the strict implementation of safety Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) during the festival. She directed all officials to enforce proper safety measures in their respective areas.

Electricity supply is another priority for the festival. LESCO teams will be present across the city to ensure uninterrupted power during the celebrations. The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) will also issue safety certificates for all buildings involved in the events.

While Basant is famous for kite flying, authorities have emphasized that only safe practices will be allowed. Metallic kite strings, known for causing serious injuries, remain strictly prohibited. The government has warned that violators will face heavy fines and legal penalties.

The festival aims to balance tradition with safety. Officials are committed to ensuring that kite flying and other Basant activities proceed without incident. Public cooperation is encouraged to maintain a safe and enjoyable environment.

The 2026 Basant Festival promises grand celebrations with cultural performances, ceremonial events, and city-wide festivities. Authorities have coordinated with multiple departments to guarantee the smooth execution of the festival while prioritizing public safety.
