CM Maryam Raises Concern Over increasing Kite Prices As Basant Approaches

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has taken notice of the rising prices of kites and related materials ahead of the Basant festival 2026 in Lahore. The move comes after reports of steep increases in costs, causing concern among residents and festival organizers.

An important meeting was held at the Home Department, chaired by Punjab Housing Minister Bilal Yaseen. The discussion focused on controlling prices and ensuring safety during the celebrations. Secretary of the Home Department, Dr. Ahmad Javed Qazi, briefed officials on the safety measures being implemented for the festival.

Bilal Yaseen confirmed that the CM takes notice seriously and has ordered immediate steps to address the issue. Production of kite materials has been allowed in districts such as Kasur, Sheikhupura, Faisalabad, and Multan. This is expected to ensure rapid supply to Lahore, reducing prices significantly within a day.

The provincial government emphasized that these measures aim not only to stabilize prices but also to ensure a โ€œSafe Basant.โ€ Authorities are coordinating closely to monitor the production, supply, and distribution of kite materials across the province.

Officials said CM Maryam Nawaz has taken notice of both price concerns and safety preparations, directing authorities to ensure adequate stock and adherence to safety protocols. This includes surveillance, emergency response teams, and awareness campaigns to prevent accidents during the festival.

The Basant festival, celebrated with kite flying across Lahore, attracts thousands of participants. By controlling prices and enhancing safety measures, the government aims to allow citizens to enjoy the festivities without financial or security concerns.

Authorities continue to coordinate with local suppliers and law enforcement to maintain order and accessibility. The swift actions taken after the CM takes notice highlight the governmentโ€™s commitment to both affordability and public safety during major cultural events.
