PTI Chief Whip Aamir Dogar recently held a meeting with Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Tariq Fazal Chaudhry. The meeting focused on preparations for the upcoming high-level interaction. Officials discussed logistics and key issues linked to the session where the prime minister is set To Meet the opposition leader.
Sources said the discussion emphasized ensuring smooth arrangements for the meeting inside the National Assembly. Both sides agreed on the importance of dialogue to address parliamentary matters and political concerns.
The development comes after the appointment of Mahmood Khan Achakzai as the Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly. Achakzai is the head of Tehreek Tahafuz Ayeen-i-Pakistan and chairman of the Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party. His nomination was proposed by PTI founder Imran Khan.
Mahmood Khan Achakzai was officially appointed on January 16. The decision was approved by Speaker of the National Assembly Ayaz Sadiq. Following the approval, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar and senior leader Aamir Dogar were summoned to the Speaker’s chamber.
A PTI delegation, led by Barrister Gohar, met the Speaker shortly after. During the meeting, they were formally handed the notification confirming Achakzai’s appointment as opposition leader.
The position became vacant after former opposition leader Omar Ayub was disqualified. He ceased to be a member of the National Assembly, prompting PTI to nominate a replacement. Imran Khan later proposed Mahmood Khan Achakzai for the role.
PTI had formally submitted a request for Achakzai’s appointment earlier. The request was supported by signatures from more than 70 National Assembly members. The party had been pressing for his appointment for several weeks.
With the leadership issue resolved, attention has now shifted to the upcoming engagement. The prime minister is expected To Meet Achakzai in what is being seen as an important political development. Observers believe the meeting could set the tone for future parliamentary cooperation.
