The SL president Anura Kumara Dissanayake expressed gratitude to Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for ensuring the Pakistan vs India T20 World Cup match goes ahead.
The SL president shared a message on social media platform X, thanking the Pakistani government for ending the boycott. He wrote, โThank you Prime Minister @CMShehbaz for ensuring the game we all love goes on. Delighted that the eagerly awaited India and Pakistan match at the ongoing T20 Cricket World Cup in Colombo will proceed as planned.โ
Dissanayake also acknowledged the efforts of the International Cricket Council (ICC) and other stakeholders in facilitating the match. โAs co-host of the tournament, Sri Lanka thanks the @ICC and all concerned for their efforts,โ the SL president added. He highlighted the historical solidarity between India and Pakistan during the 1996 World Cup, when both teams played in Colombo despite security concerns.
