PM Shehbaz Hails Launch of Kuwait-Based Bank in Pakistan

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday welcomed the launch of a Kuwait-Based Bank in Pakistan, calling it a milestone for the country’s financial sector. The granting of its commercial licence marks a significant step in strengthening Pakistan–Kuwait economic ties.

Speaking at the licence awarding ceremony in Islamabad, PM Shehbaz emphasized that strong political relations between the two countries must be complemented by robust economic engagement. He noted that sustainable partnerships require trade, investment, and financial collaboration.

The premier congratulated the Kuwait-Based Bank for becoming Pakistan’s third licensed digital retail bank. He expressed confidence that it would support financial inclusion, innovation, and Shariah-compliant banking. “Digital Islamic banking will modernize Pakistan’s financial ecosystem while adhering to Islamic principles,” he added.

PM Shehbaz highlighted the long-standing cultural, political, and people-to-people relations between Pakistan and Kuwait. He said the launch of this bank would further strengthen economic and investment ties, helping the partnership grow from strength to strength.

The Kuwaiti ambassador praised the bank’s launch as a practical reflection of the brotherly relations between the two countries. He reaffirmed Kuwait’s commitment to supporting Pakistan and expanding cooperation in trade, investment, and financial services.

The Kuwait-Based Bank’s chairman thanked the government and the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) for their support. The bank also presented a commemorative memento to PM Shehbaz Sharif. Bank officials said the institution would provide fully Shariah-compliant digital banking services to enhance accessibility, efficiency, and customer experience while promoting Pakistan’s financial inclusion goals.

The licence awarding ceremony was attended by the acting governor of the SBP, senior government officials, and leaders from Pakistan’s banking and financial sector. The launch of this Kuwait-Based Bank is expected to introduce modern banking solutions, attract investments, and contribute to the growth of Pakistan’s digital finance ecosystem.
