Karachi Police On High Alert As DIG Cancels Leaves For Ramadan Traffic Management

The Karachi traffic police have announced strict measures ahead of Ramadan to manage road congestion. The decision comes as the city prepares for increased movement during the holy month. To support this plan, the traffic department Cancels Police Leaves for its personnel.

DIG Traffic Mazhar Nawaz Sheikh formally issued the orders earlier this week. He said the step was necessary to maintain smooth traffic flow across Karachi. According to the DIG, traffic pressure rises sharply before iftar each day. Extra police strength is needed during these peak hours.

Mazhar Nawaz Sheikh explained that additional contingents will be deployed at key intersections. Special attention will be given to main roads and commercial zones. The department expects heavy traffic near markets and shopping centers. These areas attract large crowds during Ramadan evenings.

The DIG confirmed that Cancels Police Leaves will remain in effect throughout Ramadan. He said no leave requests will be approved during this period. Only genuine emergencies will be considered. All officers and staff have been directed to remain on duty.

He also highlighted concerns about the last ten days of Ramadan. During this time, shopping activity increases further. Vehicles are often parked outside malls and bazaars. Police teams will be deployed to manage parking and prevent blockages. The aim is to reduce inconvenience for commuters and pedestrians.

The DIG instructed senior officers to ensure strict implementation of the orders. He warned that negligence would not be tolerated. The department plans to monitor performance daily. Officers have been told to coordinate closely with field staff.

This development follows a recent change in leadership. Last week, the Sindh government removed DIG Peer Muhammad Shah as Karachiโ€™s traffic police chief. A notification from Chief Secretary Asif Hyder Shah confirmed the decision. DIG Mazhar Nawaz Sheikh was transferred and posted as the new chief.

The notification did not mention reasons for the removal. However, sources said the former DIG faced questions over alleged misuse of authority. The Inspector General of Police had sought an explanation earlier this year. DIG Shah was given three days to respond to the allegations.

With new leadership in place, the department Cancels Police Leaves as part of its Ramadan strategy. Authorities hope these steps will ease congestion and improve traffic discipline during the busy month.
