Adeeb Ahmed Appointed Acting CEO of K-Electric

KARACHI: Adeeb Ahmed has been appointed as the acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of K-Electric, Pakistan’s leading power utility, the company confirmed on Friday. The decision was taken during a meeting of the K-Electric Board of Directors, following the resignation of former CEO Moonis Alvi.

Ahmed brings over three decades of experience in energy, infrastructure, and finance. He has previously held senior positions in investment banking, M&A, and private equity across Pakistan, the GCC, MENA, Turkey, and Southeast Asia. His recent roles include serving as CEO of Hascol Petroleum Limited and Senior Advisor to the CEO at Islamic Corporation for the Development of the Private Sector (ICD) in Saudi Arabia.

A K-Electric spokesperson said Ahmed has been associated with the company since 2019 as a director. He holds an M.Sc. from the London School of Economics (LSE) and an MBA from IBA, Karachi. The board expressed confidence that Ahmed’s appointment will ensure a smooth leadership transition.

Moonis Alvi resigned after 18 years with K-Electric, including nearly eight as CEO. In a statement on X, Alvi said, “Institutions are always greater than individuals. It has been an honour to serve an institution so central to Karachi’s life.” He also confirmed that he would assist in the smooth handover of responsibilities.

In a separate development, Sindh Governor Kamran Khan Tessori overturned a workplace harassment order against Moonis Alvi, providing major relief to the outgoing CEO. The decision was issued under Section 9 of the Protection against Harassment of Women at the Workplace Act, 2010. K-Electric formally informed the Pakistan Stock Exchange about these developments.

Analysts say Adeeb Ahmed’s appointment is expected to bring stability and strengthen K-Electric’s operational and strategic initiatives. His expertise in energy sector management and global infrastructure projects positions him to lead the company during a period of transformation and growth.
