Taylor Swift Urges US Government To Block ‘Swift Home’ Trademark

Taylor Swift Urges US Government To Block ‘Swift Home’ Trademark

Pop superstar Taylor Swift has filed a request with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office to prevent a bedding company from registering a trademark using the phrase “Swift Home.”

Her company, TAS Rights Management LLC, argued in a Wednesday filing that the cursive “Swift” in Cathay Home Inc’s logo closely resembles Taylor Swift’s signature. The filing states this similarity could mislead consumers into thinking the singer endorses the products.

Cathay Home applied last year to register “Swift Home” for bedding items such as pillows, mattresses, and sheets. Their products are sold at major retailers including Bed Bath & Beyond, Target, and Nordstrom.

Taylor Swift already owns federal trademarks covering the use of her name on clothing, bed linens, and other merchandise. Her company argued that Cathay Home’s proposed trademark would cause confusion among shoppers and dilute her brand.

The singer, a 14-time Grammy Award winner, is no stranger to intellectual property disputes. However, trademark attorney Josh Gerben noted that Swift has filed relatively few trademark oppositions compared to other celebrities of her stature.

Gerben explained that the primary concern is the logo’s close resemblance to her signature. “Normally, someone with as much invested in IP as Taylor does would show more activity at the Trademark Office,” he said.

The filing does not mean the case is settled. Attorneys and spokespeople for Swift and Cathay Home have not yet responded to requests for comment. Legal experts say the outcome will depend on whether the office believes the trademark could create consumer confusion.

Taylor Swift’s latest move shows the singer’s commitment to protecting her brand. The pop star’s Swift Home opposition comes at a time when her merchandise and personal brand have significant commercial value, especially after her record-breaking Eras tour.

As the case develops, it will highlight how celebrities use trademark law to control the commercial use of their names. Fans and consumers will be watching closely to see whether Swift Home can be registered or if the singer successfully blocks the trademark.

This is the latest example of Taylor Swift actively managing her intellectual property and ensuring her name and signature remain associated only with products she endorses.
