Cricketer Mohammad Amir Criticizes Abhishek Sharma’s Batting Style

Former Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Amir calls out Indian opener Abhishek Sharma ahead of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 match on Sunday. Amir shared his thoughts during a television programme.

Amir calls Sharma more of an aggressive hitter than a technically solid batter. He said Sharma often relies on power over technique, which increases the risk of failure.

“From what I’ve seen, if I’m being completely honest, he looks like a slogger to me,” Amir remarked. “He goes hard at almost every ball. If it comes off, it comes off — but more often than not, the risk of failure is higher.”

Amir pointed out Sharma’s inconsistent performances. He noted that Sharma tends to produce one big score among several low ones. He also raised concerns over Sharma’s ability to handle quality bowling, especially slower balls and subtle swing.

Despite the critique, Amir acknowledged Sharma’s potential. He said that when in form, Sharma can dismantle any bowling attack. However, Amir stressed that the batter will only become complete once he consistently handles movement and shows stronger technical control.

Amir calls attention to these weaknesses ahead of the highly anticipated India-Pakistan clash, where Sharma’s form could influence the outcome significantly.

Sharma’s T20I record remains impressive. He has scored 1,297 runs in 39 matches at a strike rate of 194.95, including two centuries and eight fifties. Against Pakistan, he has 110 runs in three matches at a strike rate close to 190, with one half-century.

However, Sharma’s performance in the ongoing World Cup has been limited. He fell for a first-ball duck against the USA and missed the Namibia match due to illness. His availability for the India-Pakistan game remains uncertain.

Amir’s critique highlights both Sharma’s explosive potential and his technical vulnerabilities. Fans and analysts will closely watch if Sharma can overcome these weaknesses when India faces Pakistan in the T20 World Cup 2026.
