Karachi Weather Alert: PMD Predicts Rain And Thunderstorms Starting February 17

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a Weather Update predicting a shallow westerly wave approaching western parts of the country on 16th February.

Under this system, light to moderate rain, wind, and thunderstorms are expected from the evening of 16th February to 17th February in Karachi, Quetta, Ziarat, Chaman, Pishin, Qilla Abdullah, Qilla Saifullah, Chaghi, Nokkundi, Dalbandin, Noushki, Harnai, Zhob, Kalat, Mustung, Bar Khan, Sibbi, Loralai, Khuzdar, Kech, Turbat, Panjgur, Gawadar, Awaran, Kharan, Pasni, Ormara, and Lasbella, with occasional breaks.

The Weather Update also warns that gusty and dust-raising winds are likely in Dadu, Hyderabad, Karachi, Thatta, Badin, Jamshoro, Shukur, Larkana, Jacobabad, and Khairpur from 17th February.

In addition, light to moderate rain, wind, and thunderstorms are expected in Waziristan, Bannu, D.I Khan, and Kurram on the night of 16th February and throughout 17th February.

Isolated places in D.G Khan, Multan, Bhakkar, Layyah, Bahawalpur, and nearby areas may experience light rain or drizzle with gusty, dust-raising winds on 17th February.

PMD also highlighted the possibility of hailstorms in north Balochistan, D.I Khan, and D.G Khan during the forecast period. Residents are advised to stay alert and take precautions against potential weather hazards.

The Weather Update serves as an early advisory for travelers, farmers, and city dwellers. Officials recommend avoiding outdoor activities during thunderstorms and ensuring proper safety measures during hail or strong winds.

Authorities will continue monitoring the developing weather system and provide further updates. Citizens are encouraged to follow official channels for timely information and safety instructions.

Overall, the PMD expects moderate rainfall, gusty winds, and isolated hailstorms across several regions, with western and southern Pakistan likely to experience the most significant weather impact.
