Peshawar–Islamabad M-1 And M-14 Motorways Closed Amid PTI Protests

PTI Protests have disrupted traffic on major highways and increased political tensions across the country. Supporters of Imran Khan staged demonstrations over concerns about his health and continued detention.

According to the National Highways and Motorway Police, the Peshawar-Islamabad Motorway (M-1) is fully closed. The road is blocked from Sawabi Interchange to Burhan Interchange in both directions. The Mardan-Rashakai section is also shut down due to PTI Protests.

Authorities confirmed that the M-14 motorway, the western route of CPEC, is also affected. It is blocked from Yarik Interchange near Dera Ismail Khan to Isa Khel. Commuters have been advised to use GT Road as an alternative route.

The PTI Protests began when party workers staged a sit-in at Sawabi. This move halted traffic heading toward Islamabad. Several other roads linking Dera Ismail Khan to Punjab are also closed. These include Bhakkar Road, Qureshi Mor, Chashma Road, and parts of the CPEC route.

In Islamabad, police have taken legal action against protesters. A case has been registered against 55 individuals. Among them are seven PTI parliamentarians. The case was filed at the Secretariat Police Station under the Anti-Terrorism Act.

Police said the protest took place near Parliament Lodges and Parliament House. Officials alleged that some protesters threatened officers on duty. Around 50 to 55 individuals were present at the site. Police claimed some carried sticks and other objects.

Four suspects were arrested and presented before an Anti-Terrorism Court. The court granted a five-day physical remand for further investigation.

Meanwhile, Muhammad Sohail Afridi addressed the situation. He said Imran Khan has the constitutional right to medical treatment. He stressed that Khan should receive care from his personal doctors in the presence of family members.

Afridi criticized authorities for restricting access to family and doctors. He described it as a violation of court orders. He warned that any escalation would be the government’s responsibility.

He also defended the PTI Protests. He said they have remained peaceful and lawful. He added that PTI is an organized political party. According to him, future demonstrations will follow the guidance of designated leaders.

The ongoing PTI Protests continue to impact travel and public life. Authorities are monitoring the situation closely.
