Karachi narrowly avoided a major disaster after a gunfight between the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) and militants in Shah Latif Town.
DIG CTD Azfar Mahesar and SSP CTD Irfan Bahadur said the operation was based on critical intelligence from previously arrested terrorists. The exchange of fire was intense, leaving all four terrorists fatally wounded.
The deceased militants have been identified as Jaleel alias Fareed, Niaz alias King, and Hamdan alias Fareed. The identity of the fourth terrorist is still being confirmed. Officials revealed that the militants were accidentally killed by gunfire from their own associates during the chaos.
Two CTD officers were injured during the operation. Head Constable Muhammad Yousuf and Constable Raja Junaid are currently receiving medical attention.
The operation traces back to early January, when authorities recovered nearly 2,000 kg of explosives and arrested three terrorists. The intelligence collected from those arrests directly led to today’s operation against the four terrorists in Shah Latif Town.
Officials said the arrested militants were linked to the Fitna All India Bashir Zeb network, raising concerns about potential coordinated attacks in the city.
The Bomb Disposal Squad was called in due to the ongoing threat. Their search uncovered large quantities of explosives in drums, along with detonators, wires, and complex circuits. Authorities are currently neutralizing these explosives before transferring them to a secure location.
CTD imposed strict checkpoints across Malir and nearby districts to prevent any escape. The search operation for other possible associates continues relentlessly.
This successful operation demonstrates the CTD’s commitment to countering terrorism and safeguarding Karachi residents from high-risk militant activities. The elimination of the four terrorists is seen as a major step toward disrupting planned attacks in the city.
