Court Orders Suspension of Loadshedding During Sehar And Iftar in Ramadan 2026

Court Orders Suspension of Loadshedding During Sehar And Iftar in Ramadan 2026

The Peshawar High Court (PHC) has ordered the Peshawar Electric Supply Company (PESCO) to suspend loadshedding during Suhoor and Iftar in Ramadan 2026. The decision came after petitions were filed against unscheduled power outages in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

In a detailed five-page written judgment, the court directed PESCO to avoid unscheduled electricity cuts. The court specifically instructed the company to suspend loadshedding during key fasting hours to ensure relief for citizens.

The petition was filed by three lawyers who challenged frequent and unannounced power outages. They argued that electricity cuts during Suhoor and Iftar create serious hardship for fasting individuals.

During the hearings, PESCOโ€™s legal counsel raised objections about the courtโ€™s jurisdiction. The counsel referred to the relevant appellate tribunal. However, the High Court rejected the objections and issued clear directions in its ruling.

The court acknowledged the countryโ€™s ongoing electricity shortage. It stated that providing 24-hour uninterrupted power supply may not be practical. However, it emphasized that distribution companies must avoid unscheduled outages.

The judgment ordered PESCO to suspend loadshedding during Suhoor and Iftar hours without exception. If power interruptions become unavoidable, the company must provide a clear and transparent schedule in advance.

The court also directed PESCO to use all available resources to reduce load shedding. It urged compliance with Supreme Court guidelines regarding electricity generation and distribution.

All concerned authorities were instructed to ensure reliable electricity supply throughout Ramadan. The court stressed that proper planning and management can minimize inconvenience for citizens.

The ruling aims to provide relief to residents during the holy month. By ordering authorities to suspend loadshedding during critical hours, the PHC has sought to balance public needs with energy constraints.

The decision has been welcomed by many residents, who hope the order will bring stability to electricity supply during Ramadan 2026.
